The Pre Tax Stock Up Guide

The Pre Tax Stock Up Guide

The countdown is on. Vape Tax arrives in the UK on October 1st 2026.

It is not a change we wanted to see at Make My Vape and we know the price increases are going to be felt across the vaping industry and by our MMV community.

We have always tried to make DIY vaping as affordable as possible. So before the new tax comes in we want to help you make the most of the time left at current prices.

No panic buying. No scare tactics. Just clear information and some sensible advice on what is worth stocking up on before things change.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO NOW?

Our advice is simple. Stock up on what you already use.

If you have a favourite e-liquid Concentrate, a VG and PG mix you regularly buy, Nicotine you know you will need or an e-liquid you order every month, those are the products worth thinking about now. There is no point filling your cupboards with products you have never tried just because Vape Tax is coming. You need to work out what you normally use and buy ahead where it makes financial sense.

WHAT IS CHANGING?

Vaping Products Duty will be charged at £2.20 per 10ml of vaping liquid. That works out at 22p for every 1ml. The duty is based on the volume of liquid and applies whether or not the product contains nicotine.

Products affected include:

Vegetable Glycerine
Propylene Glycol
Flavour concentrates
Shortfills
Longfills
Nicotine shots
Nicotine salts
Bottle Shots
One Shots

To all our Make My Vape customers who mix their own e-liquid, the impact is particularly noticeable because many of these products are bought in larger bottles.

WHAT DOES THE TAX ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?

Below is the Vaping Products Duty based purely on volume:

10ml = £2.20
30ml = £6.60
50ml = £11.00
100ml = £22.00
250ml = £55.00
500ml = £110.00
1 litre = £220.00

These figures show the duty itself and not the exact amount that every retail product will increase by. But they make one thing very clear. The bigger the bottle the bigger the impact.

WHAT ARE THE ESSENTIAL PRODUCTS TO STOCK UP ON?

VG AND PG

If you mix your own e-liquid VG and PG should be at the top of your stock up list.

VG and PG are normally bought in much larger quantities so the new volume based duty will quickly add up, making these products a priority when you are looking to stock up and save money.

500ml = £110 in duty
1 litre = £220 in duty

If VG and PG are part of your normal mixing routine take a look at how much you use over a few months and consider buying ahead while current stock is available.

NICOTINE AND NICOTINE SHOTS

For many of our customers nicotine is another essential. A standard 10ml nicotine shot represents £2.20 in Vaping Products Duty on future duty paid stock.

10 shots = £22
20 shots = £44
50 shots = £110

Think about how many shots you normally use each month and work from there.

If you are buying more than usual please also think about storage. Check expiry and best before dates and only buy what you are likely to use within the recommended shelf life. Keep nicotine securely stored in its original labelled packaging away from children and pets and always follow the handling and storage instructions provided.

FLAVOUR CONCENTRATES AND LONGFILLS

Your favourite flavours are affected too. If there are concentrates or longfills you have been buying from Make My Vape for years, now is a good time to keep a few extra bottles aside.

Smaller bottles mean the total duty per bottle will generally be lower than large bottles of VG or PG. But it still adds up.

Stick with the flavours you know and love. Your everyday mixes are the ones worth buying ahead.

WHAT DOES NOT NEED STOCKING UP?

The new Vaping Products Duty applies to vaping liquid only. It does not apply to your normal vaping hardware.

So there is no need to suddenly stockpile:

DIY Mixing Accessories
Devices
Pods
Tanks
Coils
Batteries
Accessories

If you have a budget set aside for stocking up concentrate it on the liquid products where the new duty will actually make a difference.

WILL EVERYTHING GET MORE EXPENSIVE ON 1 OCTOBER?

Not overnight. There is existing stock within the industry that was manufactured or imported before the new duty begins. This means some products may continue to be available at current prices after October 1st.

But that stock will not last forever. As existing stock sells through and new duty paid products replace it, the impact of Vape Tax will start to become much more noticeable.

At Make My Vape we have been working incredibly hard to build our stock ahead of October and keep current pricing available to our customers for as long as we can.

We are experiencing customers buying ahead and buy more than normal. That means there is another thing to consider. Do not assume your go to flavour, nicotine or base liquid will always be sitting on the shelf.

If there is something you know you are going to need it makes sense to plan ahead.

A MESSAGE TO THE MMV COMMUNITY

DIY mixing has been at the heart of Make My Vape for over a decade and many of you have been mixing with us for years and we highly appreciate every single customer who has ever supported us.

We know Vape Tax is going to make things more expensive. There is no point pretending otherwise. But there is still time to prepare.

Do not panic buy. Buy smart.

Look at what you genuinely use. Work out what you are likely to need over the coming months and make the most of current stock and prices while you can.

The Make My Vape team will continue doing everything we can to support the MMV community through the changes and keep you informed along the way.

Plan ahead. Stock up sensibly. Save where you can.

Thank you
Team MMV
