Ireland’s New Vape Tax: What It Means for You. Starting 1st November 2025.
Welcome to the latest Make My Vape blog where we will explore the latest news about the Vape Tax being introduced in Ireland. If you vape or make your own e-liquids, there’s a big change coming soon that you need to know about.
From the 1st of November 2025, the Irish government is bringing in a new vape tax that will apply to all e-liquids, whether they contain nicotine or do not contain nicotine. This new law is called the E-Liquid Products Tax (EPT) and it adds 50 cent per millilitre to the cost of every e-liquid sold in Ireland.
That might sound small, but it adds up fast. Let’s break down what this means and how it could affect you.
TThe new vape tax will officially start on November 1st 2025. From that date, any company that manufactures or imports e-liquids into Ireland will have to pay a new excise duty of €0.50 for every millimeter of e-liquid. It doesn’t matter if the e-liquid has nicotine or not, all e-liquids are included.
The important part, the tax is charged at the very start of the supply chain, when it’s first sold or imported into Ireland. But of course, that extra cost won’t just stay there, it’ll be passed on to shops and eventually to you, the customer.
-
A 10ml bottle of e-liquid which might cost you around €5 today will now have €5 of tax added before VAT or retailer mark-up. That means prices could almost double.
-
For bigger bottles, like 50ml or 100ml shortfills, the impact is huge, a 100ml bottle could face €50 in tax alone.
So if you’re someone who vapes regularly or buys in larger quantities, you’re unfortunately going to feel the difference quickly.
The official reasons behind the new tax are:
-
To discourage young people from vaping, officials say higher prices will make it less appealing to teenagers.
-
To bring vaping in line with cigarettes, they want vaping to be taxed similarly to other nicotine products.
-
To prepare for future EU rules, Europe is planning to tax vaping more widely, and Ireland is getting ahead of that.
-
To raise extra revenue, let’s be honest, this will also bring in a lot of money for the government.
However, not everyone agrees with the move. Many in the vaping community worry that it could push people back to smoking, encourage black market products, or make harm-reduction more expensive for those who’ve already quit cigarettes.
At Make My Vape, we know many of you love the freedom and savings that come with DIY mixing and that might become even more important after November.
Here’s how this change could affect you:
The Challenges
-
E-liquids will get pricier, even nicotine free e-liquids.
-
Imported or pre mixed e-liquids will cost more, as suppliers pass the new tax down the line.
-
Some products might disappear, smaller businesses may stop selling certain liquids because they won’t be profitable.
The Opportunities
-
DIY mixing will make more sense than ever. By mixing your own, you can control your costs, flavours, and strengths and avoid some of the big price hikes on pre-made juices.
-
Focus on the basics. Items like VG, PG, flavour concentrates, and nicotine shots might still be more affordable than finished liquids.
-
Stock up before November. If there’s a flavour you love or a base you go through quickly, it’s worth getting it before prices jump.
We know this news can feel a bit worrying, especially if vaping has helped you stay off cigarettes. But don’t panic. At Make My Vape, we’ll be here to help you through it every step of the way.
Here’s what we’ll be doing:
-

This new vape tax will definitely shake things up, but knowledge is power. By planning ahead, learning a bit about DIY mixing and staying informed, you can avoid most of the shock and keep vaping the way you like it.
