What is Propylene Glycol (PG)?
Propylene Glycol, more commonly known as PG, is one of the main ingredients in e-liquids (along with VG, flavour concentrates and nicotine). It is a synthetic organic compound in the form of a thin, colourless liquid.
PG has two main functions in e-liquids: it acts as a carrier for the flavours, and it provides that throat-hit sensation when inhaled.
A common question by vapers is: is PG safe? Well, USP PG has a purity of 99.5% or more. It’s used in a variety of pharmaceuticals as well as a wide range of food and drinks.
What is Vegetable Glycerin (VG)?
One of the most common questions for those new to vaping: what is VG?
Vegetable Glycerin (VG) is derived from vegetable matter and is one of the main ingredients in e-liquids.
It’s used in e-liquids because it creates cloud vaper when it’s heated. Its smoother to vape than PG, which is one of the other key ingredients in e-liquid.
You’d be surprised where else you’d find VG – it’s used in medicine, skin-care products and food, for a start. USP VG has a purity of 99% or more.
