How to use our e-liquid calculator

Posted by Make My 24/02/2016 56 Comment(s) Guides & How-to's,

Our e-liquid calculator is easy to use, and can tell you in seconds exactly what to mix into your vape juice.

Open the calculator in a new tab by clicking here. Before you start, you need to know which flavours you are mixing (see our recipe cards for examples), what your PG/VG ratio will be, and what nicotine strength you would like.  Then simply follow a few simple steps to generate a full recipe for your e-juice.lueberry muffin e-liquid recipe cardAs an example I will make 10ml of Blueberry Muffin, with a 30%PG/70%VG ratio, and a 6mg nicotine strength using 72mg nicotine in PG.Set PG VG ratioUse the slider to set your desired PG/VG ratio.  I am aiming for 30/70. Set the amount of liquid you are mixing. For me, it's 10ml.set nicotine levelIf you are using nicotine, enter the strength of the nicotine liquid you are using, and whether it is carried in PG or VG.  Below, add the nicotine strength you would like your final e-liquid to be.If you are diluting your e-liquid with a substance such as water or alcohol, you can add that percentage here under 'extra diluent.'  I'm not using any, and will leave it at 0.Set flavour percentagePut in the percentage of your first flavour. To make Blueberry Muffin, that is 16% of Capella's Blueberry.Press 'add flavour' and enter the percentage of your second flavour. For me this is 4%.If you are using more flavours, press 'add flavour' and continue until all your flavours are entered.Final recipeYou can enter your own recipe into the calculator here. Now it's time to get mixing.  Check out our mixing guide for step by step instructions!

Hi PaulI would recommend 15% of custard and only 5% of banana as it is a quite strong flavour.

I have my kit coming tomorrow and I want to try a 2 flavour mix. I noticed I get 5 10ml bottles with the kit I got, so it makes sense for me to make 50ml. My 1st flavour will be pineapple and my second will be sour. I was going to go for 16% pineapple and 4% sour, just want to get advice on whether I have this right because I'm not sure on the potency of either yet.....thanks

Make My Vape:

Hi, I would err on the side of caution with Pineapple, because it is pretty strong. Maybe start off with 11% pineapple and 4% sour.

Ok so I have done 4 mixes with varying results, I used a 70/30 vg pg mix with 7% nicotine- Pineapple and sour Raspberry and cotton candy Skittles and sour Pina coladaThe best one by far is the raspberry and cotton candy, I'd go as far as to say that I would by this from a shop. It's smooth has lots of flavour and the combination of sweet and sour balances the raspberry flavour so it's not too tarte. The throat hit is good but I think I'll go for a 60/40 vg pg mix next time to get a better throat hit and get even more flavour. By the way if you want to try this very basic recipe, I used 12% raspberry and 4% cotton candy. I call it raspberry floss. The pineapple and sour isnt great, I noticed that the liquid is very thick and burnt out my coil in no time, so if anyone has any advice on diluting without losing flavour, let me know. The flavours are fine but you get no throat hit. I'm not sure I mixed this too well at the beggining but the confusing thing is I used 70/30 for the raspberry and cotton candy and the vicosity is just right. The pina colada is still steeping so nothing to report there but with the skittles and sour having the same issue as the pineapple and sour, maybe the sour concentrate is thicker than fruit flavours. All in all very impressed with the kit and the process wasn't really that messy. The only advice I would give is spend a fair amount of time on your initial mix, I'm going to purchase a mini electric whisk, which will improve this process.

Philip Hoff:
18/08/2016, 11:10:18 AM

Try diluting with good vodka at 10% I've tried this a few times now and it doesn't seem to affect flavour or burn my coils

Ok, so I was talking to a guy in my local vape shop and he explained his technique for thinning out VG before usage. He told me to put the required amount of VG in a plastic bottle and to rest in hot water until the water is cool (the make my vape plastic bottles are ideal for this) I'm not sure how heat resistant the bottles are so I used boiling water but let it cool down, so that I can touch the water without it scolding my fingers. Happy to report this thins out the vg nicely. I then add the rest of the ingredients to the thinned out VG. The good thing about this method is that mixing it is very easy as you just shake the bottle for about 5 mins, however make sure the bottle is firmly shut. I made a 20ml mix and have found it very easy to transfer from the mix bottle to the 10 ml bottles, so less messy.

Ingredients: - PG 5 ml - VG 2,4 ml - Nicotine 0,6 ml ( for 50mg in VG) - Sweet Strawberry CAP 0,8 ml - Bavarian Cream FW 0,8 ml - Graham Cracker FW 0,2 ml - Vanilla Bean Gelato TFA 0,2 ml

To make 10 ml with 70 vg/30 pg base and maybe 2 or 3 flavours, like Strawberry Ripe by TFA and Bavarian Cream by FW you will need:- 3ml PG - 5ml VG - 1.5ml Strawberry Ripe TFA - 0.5ml Bavarian Cream FWIf you like your e-juice really sweet you can add 1 ml of our Sweetener or Ethyl Maltol, by adding third flavour in calculator.

Your best bet is probably to email sales@makemyvape.co.uk, and let the know as many details as possible: PG/VG ratio, nicotine strength, details of your hardware, power settings etc. They will then be much better placed to help you find a solution. Thinking about getting into mixing my own vapes, was looking at the calculator on the website and testing it with a few recipes to get the hang of it. On the supreme creamy custard recipe, it has 1 drop per ml Ethyl Maltol. How do you add this into the recipe calculator? Am I being dumb! Adding the % of flavours is simple but I don't get how to add drops per ml on it?

admin:
01/09/2016, 11:01:41 AM

This recipe has 1 drop per ml of Ethyl Maltol, therefore you will have to add it accordingly to the total amount of juice to make. In addition, 1 ml is equal of 20 drops.

I'm new to the home mixing scene. Having read through the comments here I've learned quite a few useful tips for creating my own liquids. In particular, one thing that I've noticed is a few people who are thinning their liquid using vodka. Is this the only spirit people recommend using or could I substitute for something else such as rum/gin?Would the sugars in these alcohols have a detrimental effect on my coils or the viscosity of the eliquid for example?Any info would be greatly appreciated =)

admin:
21/09/2016, 10:57:29 AM

Hi,Yes, some people using vodka or distilled water to thinning their e-juice. It is not something that we would particularly recommend to our customers. As for a gin or rum, I am guessing this can affect your device and probably changed the flavour of your e-juice.

Hi,All of our flavours are based in PG. Therefore, the percentage of added flavour concentrate will increase the amount of PG in your e-liquid. The same apply for your nicotine if it is based in PG. And yes, you can still use only VG as your base in order to achieve a high VG e-juice.

10/10/2016, 05:15:23 PM

Hi! Great to hear from another Mixologist :) Do you like this 50/50 ratio? Generally speaking, more VG in your vape, from bases or/and nicotine, will give you more 'cloud' vape. Whereas, adding PG to your e-liquid will give you more throat hit, similar to smoking cigarettes. Try to make a high VG liquid, like 70%VG 30%PG, and try other combinations maybe fruity and menthol? See if you like it!

Hi,Thank you for ordering with us! Please, remember that all of our flavour concentrates are based in PG. Therefore, you can't make 100% VG e-liquid, but only high VG, depends on percentage of flavouring added.

Hi,Yes, every mix will benefit from longer steeping. The longer you steep your e-liquid the better the ingredients will blend. As for flavor percentage, we usually recommend to add anywhere from 10% - 30% overall. Therefore, you can try to increase the amount of flavor concentrate in your e-liquid.

Strawberry would go really nice with vanilla and cream, you can also add a bit of sweetener (fw). Or maybe you can try something like this http://makemyvape.co.uk/blog/recipes/very-berry ?

I have ordered your XL kit with all VG, 72mg nicotine, and h'berg concentrate. My question is, how much of each should I mix? using your calculator it doesnt seem to work as the h'berg flavour is PG based? should I just tell it the flavour is VG instead and use what it comes out with? Thanks.

Daniel,Thank you for your order! If you prefer high VG ratio, just set the top slider for correct percentage of VG and adjust the nicotine 'part'. All of our flavour concentrates are based in PG. Therefore, you will get a trace of PG in your e-liquid from your flavour concentrate. Once all the percentages and bases are added to calculator, on the right side of page, the correct results will show in percentages and millilitres and that's how much you will have to mix :)

Hi,I would suggest to start with something easy and see how it goes. You can try 10% Vanilla Custard and 10% Raspberry this will give you 20% of PG base and you will get 80% of VG from base and nicotine if you using one. This will be a nice smooth ratio to start with, I would recommend to make small batch of in e. 20 ml, in case you decide you want to try something in a different proportions.

Of course! You can try to make some tasting samples in a really small amounts just to experiment with flavour and to know what percentage is perfect for you :)
